SERA

  • Bography

Séra was born in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, in 1961. After studying fine arts and art sciences at the Sorbonne, he developed a parallel path in teaching and art:

painting, sculpture, printmaking, drawing, and graphic novels. He is the author of a trilogy of graphic novels devoted to the Cambodian tragedy. Since 1999, he regularly offers comics writing workshops at the French Institute in Phnom Penh or at the Memory Workshops that were held at the Centre of audiovisual resources Bophana, which revisit the painful history of Cambodia and involve young people in the work of memory. With an easily accessible language, he wants to go beyond the transmission between generations, to give young people a taking on their own story through creation.

His works have been widely exhibited in solo and group exhibition in France and Cambodia.

Séra is also the author of paintings and graphics performance in public places. He has received several grants creation, including one from the Centre National des Lettres. He is a lecturer at the Sorbonne (University of Paris 1) since 1989 and the Academic Director of the Phare Ponleu Selpak school in Battambang, Cambodia.
