"Marie Denis claims gestures and savoir-faire from another time.
It does not matter if her objects are hand-made or not. What are important in her universe are the anachronism and the oppositions of situations, the way she reconnects with traditional arts and crafts in which she gives a new imaginary technical and formal. The way of associating dexterities outdated to contemporary uses: still life, floral art, but also ironworks, sewing, wicker work, origami which generate as many micro or macro sculptures, objects which enhance daily life with a startling simplicity...”

Marie Denis lives and works in Paris and in journeys.
After studying at the ENBA in Lyon (France), she is resident at the Medicis Villa in 1999.
Her installations, sculptures and objects are made from raw materials or distorted and like circumventing the rules, bearings and savoir-faire to make them more poetic.
